VIRTUAL TOUR

Handcraft Tile has manufactured tile in California since 1931.

We make tile using the same methods we have always used. Our glazes are stunningly beautiful.

Our factory has a showroon and design center.

From dry clay to finished tile normally takes 3 to 6 weeks.

MAKING CLAY

Dry clay, sand, water and a few other ingredients are mixed together to make our unique clay formulas.

MOLDS

Working molds are made of plaster.

HAND PRESSING

Most of our decorative tiles are made by hand pressing.

A hand pressed tile releases from the mold after about 15 minutes.

MACHINE
PRESSING

Many of the more common tiles are formed using hydraulic presses.

DRYING

It takes between 1 and 10 days for a tile to dry properly.

GLAZING

We prepare all of our glazes from raw materials using proprietary formulas.

Glazes are hand sprayed.

KILN FIRING

Tiles are stacked on setters.

They are then fired in kilns fueled by natural gas. Firing takes about 12 hours.

INSPECTING TILE

It takes 1 to 2 days for the kiln to cool. Tiles are inspected and then boxed for shipment.
